The Focused Leader

Thank you for dropping by as we look at leadership.

No business can survive without strong and focused leadership. Even mineral rich countries end with a low standard of living because of poor resource and economic management so do companies with rich talent. Companies with huge potential have suffered big losses at the hands of poor leadership. Not everyone can lead despite their exceptional abilities in other areas. Not all best footballers have become successful coaches. Some of the best coaches never played in elite leagues. We know, there are many types of leadership but in this discourse we will look at The Focused Leader.

In "The Focused Leader" by Daniel Goleman who writes in Harvard Review he concedes that "A primary task of leadership is to direct attention. To do so, leaders must learn to focus their own attention. When we speak about being focused, we commonly mean thinking about one thing while filtering out distractions. But a wealth of recent research in neuroscience shows that we focus in many ways, for different purposes, drawing on different neural pathways—some of which work in concert, while others tend to stand in opposition."

Daniel continues further by advising that leaders must

a) Be aware of themselves

b) self control

c) self reliant

d) focus on others

e) constantly building relationships
